July was full of opportunities to ride the routes of the pros in the Morzine area
July was the month for the road bike fans in this corner of the French Alps. We were lucky enough to have the finish of one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France here in Morzine, with the battle for yellow continuing between Vingegaard and Pogacar, and the stage being won by Rodrigez after a stunning descent down the Joux Plane. As well as the tour itself, Morzine was the host village for the amateur event, L’etape du Tour the week before, with approximately 16,000 cyclists taking to the road, cycling the same route as the Tour would take the following week, and on an exceptionally hot day. Chapeau to all who took part in the event!
From a work perspective, it was also all about the bikes, with July booked up by the Sa Calobra Cycling Club from Mallorca. The team installed themselves in a beautiful chalet on the outskirts of Morzine to host three week-long camps with participants from across the globe, some of whom flew over from the US and Canada just for the week with the team. The guys were out riding the legendary cols of the region for 6 days, with daily guided routes, team briefings, technical and nutritional support and, from the stories we heard at the end of every day, an amazing team spirit. As part of the package, each rider has a daily massage. At the end of the day, we worked with the riders to refresh tired legs, aid recovery, target niggles and address any longer standing issues.
It is a real pleasure to be able to work with the riders like this – to get to know them over the course of the week, understand their needs and to support them through the camp to get the most of their time on the bike on these stunning rides. From my experience with the team and the feedback from the riders, I would highly recommend this week long camp to anyone who wants to ride in the alps and to improve or challenge their fitness and skills on the roads in a supportive and fun atmosphere. However, as they are already fully booked for 2024, you’d better get your name down early for 2025…
